CHINESE CHW CERTIFICATION TRAINING PROGRAM

Objectives:

  • To train Chinese-speaking Texas residents to become CHWs with a focus on cancer prevention

  • To provide colorectal, breast, gastric, lung, and liver cancer-related prevention services and education through the trained CHWs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic

About the Training Program:

  • Our program is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS)

    • Only Chinese-speaking Texas residents that are at least 16 years old are eligible to participate​

    • All study materials are in Mandarin (simplified Chinese)

    • The program is set up entirely online - learn at your own pace!

  • Most programs cost ~$1000, but our training program is FREE

    • In addition to the $1,000 training fee waiver, participants can now receive Amazon eGift cards of up to $50! 

Important Dates:

  • Registration deadline: September 30, 2020

    • We recommend that you register as early as possible. Once you receive an approval email from us, you can immediately start the CHW certification training. If you missed the registration deadline, but you think you can complete the training before December 31, 2020, you can still sign up through the link above.

  • Our training program start date: October 1, 2020

  • Deadline for completing our training program: December 31, 2020 

Training Program Breakdown:

1. CHW Certification Training (160 hours)

  • This CHW certification training includes 140 hours of online training course and 20 hours of internship

  • The online training course has 30 online modules with pre-class and post-class questionnaires, quizzes, and assignments

  • The average individual scores on the quizzes and the assignments must be AT LEAST 60 points in order to pass the course

  • The internship must be related to Chinese American health and/or cancer prevention, for more information about the internship, please refer to the internship section of the FAQ page

  • The internship form must be signed by the relevant organizations (due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, to keep you safe, please avoid crowds during your internship)

  • The first 300 participants who complete the CHW certification training will receive a $25 Amazon eGift card 

  • All participants who complete the CHW certification training will receive a certificate of completion

  • Participants can use the certificate of completion in an online application for a Texas DSHS-certified CHW certification

2. Cancer-Related Education & Services

  • Within the first three months of completing the course, each participant is encouraged to serve as many Chinese                  community members as he/she can

  • The Chinese community members served should reside in Texas, be between the ages of 18 and 75, and should not have any history of cancer

  • More information will be provided at the end of the CHW online certification course

3. Three-Month Online Follow-Up Survey

  • Three months after the end of the CHW certification training, there will be an online follow-up survey

  • The first 300 participants who complete the survey will receive a $25 Amazon eGift card
